Healthy Holiday Tips from Dr. Barry

Have a Healthy Holiday Season....Boost Your Immune System

What are some natural and healthy alternatives to make sure that your body is able to fight off any potential viral or bacterial infections this season? Here is Dr. Barry's list of recommendations to make sure your immune system is functioning at its best level possible this holiday season:

Continue with your regular chiropractic care: Chiropractic care maximizes the nervous system's ability to function and ensures that the body is operating at its peak performance. More and more research studies are being published each year showing the natural health benefits that chiropractic care can have on the immune system. Get adjusted!

Take a multi-vitamin: Give your system all the nutrients its needs. Often times our diets tend to lack in certain areas, like proper intake of fruits and vegetables, and a quality multi-vitamin or supplement can help fill in some of those gaps.

Don't over eat or drink at holiday meals: Excess food and alcohol intake increases weight and decreases your immune systems ability to fight off viruses. Make smart choices when it comes to holiday parties. Take a look at the buffet or appetizer table before you start to eat and limit what you can have. Fill up on fruits and veggies before a party to curb your hunger. Our bodies spend a great deal of energy digesting the large amounts of food and drink we tend to have this time of year. Couldn't that energy be better spent boosting the production of our various immune cells? Remember to drink lots of water...8-10 glasses per day.

Exercise: This one can be tough as winter gets colder and doing the things that keep us active during the spring and summer months are no longer an opotion. Make an effort to engage in some sort of physical activity several times per week and your body will thank you for it!

Avoid over exposure to the cold: Despite what you heard, you do not get a cold or the flu simply from being in cold weather. What can happen. however, is that extended exposure to cold weather can cause your body to focus much of its energy on basic life sustaining functions and less so on producing the levels of immune cells we need to fight off viruses and bacteria. Bundle up this winter, not so you do not catch a cold, but to maintain a higher body temperature and boost your immune system!

Healthy Family Month

If your spine was on your face, would you take better care of it?

Now through March 31, 2010 we are celebrating "Healthy Family Month". During this time we would like to meet members of your family who have never had their nervous system health evaluated by Dr. Barry. For just $20.00, your family members will receive a complete evaluation including all exams and any necessary x-rays.

"One of the best parts of my job is to see how chiropractic care can transform a family. Maybe their child is suffering from chronic ear infections which causes the child to be on multiple medications, parents to lose work time and causes stress in the family. During their treatment plan we see the medications decrease, mom and dad can get back to work and the whole family dynamic is happier! That is why I wake up everyday. To see the difference our care can make in someones life" Dr. Barry

Your spine controls every nerve, cell and function of your body and everyday we abuse it by our daily activities. Too many times we wait until there is a painful symptom to improve the function of our bodies. Healthy Family Month celebrates chiropractic before pain! Take a proactive approach to the well-being of your family's health and schedule a spinal check-up for members of your family who are currently not under chiropractic care!

To schedule spinal check up appointments, please call (618) 288-7991.

Miracle Year of Wellness 2010

We feel that we have a duty to reach out and help the community in many ways. Our first priority and greatest ability is to provide our community with natural heath care and wellness through the chiropractic adjustment. We believe the best thing that could help the heath and health care costs of our community is for everyone to be receiving the benefits of chiropractic. But we are not stopping there. As a part of the Miracle Year For Wellness celebration, we are currently raising donations for Teal We Find a Cure.

Teal We Find a Cure was founded in 2008 by Laura Britt-Gray and Sarah Gray-Garman in honor of their mother Tracie Gray who has been battling ovarian cancer since 2006. You may have seen Tracie's adorable twin grandsons, Luke and Logan, and granddaughter, Alayna in our office and at our Patient Appreciation Dinner. The Gray family is from Dr. Barry's home town of Brighton, IL and we are honored to help in their efforts to raise money for the Washington University Physicians' Division of Gynecologic Oncology for Ovarian Cancer Research. We have many special events planned throughout the year to raise money for Teal We Find a Cure while helping more individuals and families become healthier through chiropractic care.
