Have a Healthy Holiday Season....Boost Your Immune System
Continue with your regular chiropractic care: Chiropractic care maximizes the nervous system's ability to function and ensures that the body is operating at its peak performance. More and more research studies are being published each year showing the natural health benefits that chiropractic care can have on the immune system. Get adjusted!
Take a multi-vitamin: Give your system all the nutrients its needs. Often times our diets tend to lack in certain areas, like proper intake of fruits and vegetables, and a quality multi-vitamin or supplement can help fill in some of those gaps.
Don't over eat or drink at holiday meals: Excess food and alcohol intake increases weight and decreases your immune systems ability to fight off viruses. Make smart choices when it comes to holiday parties. Take a look at the buffet or appetizer table before you start to eat and limit what you can have. Fill up on fruits and veggies before a party to curb your hunger. Our bodies spend a great deal of energy digesting the large amounts of food and drink we tend to have this time of year. Couldn't that energy be better spent boosting the production of our various immune cells? Remember to drink lots of water...8-10 glasses per day.
Exercise: This one can be tough as winter gets colder and doing the things that keep us active during the spring and summer months are no longer an opotion. Make an effort to engage in some sort of physical activity several times per week and your body will thank you for it!
Avoid over exposure to the cold: Despite what you heard, you do not get a cold or the flu simply from being in cold weather. What can happen. however, is that extended exposure to cold weather can cause your body to focus much of its energy on basic life sustaining functions and less so on producing the levels of immune cells we need to fight off viruses and bacteria. Bundle up this winter, not so you do not catch a cold, but to maintain a higher body temperature and boost your immune system!
